●●● Are you ready for your 2023 Outlander journey? If you start from the US you will enter your flight on a Saturday in order to arrive on a Sunday at Edinburgh. We wish you a pleasant flight!
●●● At the airport you will already be welcomed and transferred to your first hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can already explore the city on your own before meeting your fellow travelers at dinner and getting in the mood for the upcoming OUTLANDER WEEK together. Pssst, today already awaits you a first small SURPRISE!
●●● After breakfast we start our joint exploration tour on Edinburgh’s ROYAL MILE and discover JAMIE’S PRINTING SHOP, where he finally meets Claire again after years of separation. In addition, the filming location of the JAMAICA BALL, the original WORLD’S END PUB and other exciting locations are waiting to be explored by us. Our tour guide will show us the most important places and sights of the Scottish capital and we will also visit EDINBURGH CASTLE.
Are you now ready for one of the most idyllic filming locations of the series? We’re off to the picturesque LALLYBROCH MILL – we’re all sure to remember the scenes that took place there! The mill was actually in operation until 1959, making it the last water mill still in operation in the region.
Before we review the eventful day over dinner together at the hotel, things get exciting once again! We visit PRISON ARDSMUIR, where Jamie was held captive after the Battle of Culloden.
●●● Today we have to get up early, but with the program planned we certainly won’t find it difficult! We set off for the village of Culross, where a number of scenes were filmed. Geillis lived here in the fictional village of CRANESMUIR, and CLAIRE’S HERBAL GARDEN, where she met Geillis, was also filmed at this location. At the same time, the JACOBITE MEETING ROOM, where the fight between Laoghaire and Bree took place in the fourth season, was also filmed in Culross.
Together we visit the MARKETPLACE of Cranesmuir and the Black Kirk, before we explore Scotland’s oldest castle, ABERDOUR CASTLE. This one actually dates back to the 12th century and in the series represents the CASTLE OF ST. ANNE DE BEAUPRÉ, where Jamie is supposed to recover from the terrible events with Black Jack Randall. The old kitchen of the castle as well as the Long Gallery were also locations of some Outlander scenes. We continue on to OUTLANDER-INVERNESS, which is actually the small town of Falkland. This is where the first and fourth seasons of the series were filmed. If you like, you can visit Falkland Palace on your own before we end the day in OUTLANDER-LE HAVRE and think of Claire and Jamie how they arrived here in the harbor on their escape to France. Afterwards, we will check into our second hotel and enjoy our dinner there.
●●● We begin our fourth day of travel on Jamie’s beloved LALLYBROCH. Our tour guide reveals which scenes were filmed in this area before we visit the Duke of Sandringham’s residence, HOPETOUN HOUSE. This was also the location of ELLESMERE and HELWATER, and some scenes in Paris, such as MAISON ELISE, were actually shot here. You will be amazed at how big it is in reality!
After that, we have to be very strong once again. We’ll visit the headquarters of Black Jack Randall FORT WILLIAM – hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy the spirit of place despite the events that took place here! Next, we have another Sandringham filming location in store: we’ll visit THE DUKE’S KITCHEN, where Murtagh decapitated him!
To finish off the day, we’ll visit CASTLE LEOCH before heading back to our hotel for dinner.
●●● This morning we visit TIBBERMORE CHURCH, which actually dates back to medieval times, where Claire and Geillis‘ witch trial was filmed. We then continue on to the TULLIBARDINE CHAPEL. This chapel is where Claire, Jamie and the others hid on the way to Inverness, pretending they were holding Claire captive.
Before lunch in PITLOCHRY, we take a leisurely walk through the Outlander version of the GARDENS OF VERSAILLES CASTLE. In the forest not far from Pitlochry, the MOHAWK camp was filmed.
Our onward journey takes us to the actual Highlands, where we finally go on a short time travel into the 18th century and visit the HIGHLAND FOLK MUSEUM. This is where the fifth episode of the first season was filmed.
After a long day, we check into our hotel in the Highland National Park for the next two nights and look back on the eventful day over dinner.
●●● Today we visit INVERNESS (the real one), the capital of the Highlands. Here we have plenty of time for lunch, strolling or a walk along the River Ness. In the afternoon we visit the CULLODEN BATTLE FIELD – Jacobite exhibition included, before heading back to our hotel for dinner.
●●● First thing in the morning after breakfast, we drive to the breathtaking WEST HIGHLANDS. Our first stop is GLENFINNAN. This is where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the standard in August 1745 at the beginning of the JACOBITE REBELLION.
Continuing our journey, we stop in GLENCOE, where the Outlander cover picture and opening scenes were filmed, before heading towards Glasgow.
We check into our hotel in Glasgow, dinner is already waiting for us there! Some special GUESTS will join us and this is how we finish another awesome day.
●●● Today we take full advantage of the last full day of our Outlander tour. First, we visit Glasgow Cathedral, which is the HÔPITAL DES ANGES in the series. Afterwards, we explore George Square. We all remember the scene in front of the town hall, in which Frank spontaneously proposes to Claire. To shoot the scenes, time was set back to the 1940s – old-fashioned cars and outfits included, of course! The square named after King George III is considered the most important square in the city. Nowadays it is the seat of Glasgow City Council. In the afternoon we will make an excursion to the Pullok Country Park, which served as a filming location for the LANDSCAPES between Paris and Le Havre and as a setting for the nature scenes around Leoch Castle. Also the quarrel between Claire and Jamie after their escape from Fort William and the scene in which Claire sings a song to find Jamie again was filmed. During our last dinner together we let the trip come to an end and look back on the many shared experiences.
●●● Our journey through time comes to an end and we have to travel back to the 21st CENTURY. Our private transfer takes us back to Edinburgh airport and on the plane back home we have time to reminisce about the 18th century. Bye bye Scotland! Have a safe trip and share your wonderful experiences with your friends & family.
